The Client Brief

Our client's current kitchen space was enclosed behind several walls. The living area was dark and lacked natural light with no connection to the outdoors. He wanted to create a more open plan layout that included a guest bathroom, laundry space with a modern classic look. 

The Challenge

The removal of several walls would help create more open space, however, the challenge was in designing and orienting the layout to make the most of this new larger space. What were the best locations for the guest bath and laundry and how can we further improve the indoor-outdoor flow?

The Design Solution

Removal of two walls to create a larger living space and support open plan living our client wanted.  The new kitchen was positioned centrally to allow better access and connection with the living and dining areas. A WC for guests and a separate laundry complete with barn doors were located to the rear. The barn doors ensured space and movement were not impeded within the WC and laundry room. Large wall-to-wall bi-folds were installed to let the outdoors in. A new window was installed in the bathroom to allow for more natural light. 

The Result

A completely renovated living space that now comfortably comprises dedicated kitchen/bath and laundry spaces. The new open-plan layout has created the illusion of a larger floor space giving the home a feeling of spaciousness and openness. The shaker joinery provides a classic look and a simple crisp white base provides a simple foundation that allows for personality to be added through colour and texture with accessories like lighting and handle ware.
