The Client Brief

The clients were in the process of building a new home in Sans Souci. As it was a large home, the kitchen needed to fit in with the scale of the residence. The clients also wanted to have an ‘entertainer’s kitchen’ – one where their large Greek family could be easily served and feel comfortable.

They wanted a neutral palette for their kitchen, which they could easily ‘dress’ and style as they saw fit.

The Challenge

The scale of the home was large, the ceilings high. This kitchen needed to directly correlate with the overall size of the living area and the home itself. In short, it needed to be grand in scale. The clients, being from a large Greek family, wanted a place they could easily entertain large groups of family and friends. One of the key needs was a sizeable food preparation area.

It was also important that the kitchen didn’t impede on any of the adjacent living areas but rather integrated with them.

The clients asked for a simple colour palette that fitted in with the grey flooring and grey ash timber work featured throughout the home.

The Design Solution

We devised a kitchen with great size and scale for our clients. We decided on a neutral colour palette to complement the grey tones in the home.

Complete with white cabinetry, the kitchen looks clean, crisp, fresh and and modern. We designed a large island bench 3 metres in length and 1.5 metres wide to provide for ample food preparation and entertaining. We added a beautiful waterfall edge to the benchtop that enhanced the overall luxury aesthetic. A double oven was added for preparing for large family functions together with an extra large sink for cleaning up.

The new open plan layout allows for our clients to be able to work in their kitchen and still be able to join in with friends and family in the other living areas of the home.

The Result

A luxury, open-plan, large scale kitchen that fits perfectly with our clients’ new home and taste. The kitchen easily integrates with the dining and lounge areas. The large island bench has plenty of room for family members to sit and eat with enough room to allow for food preparation.

Our clients’ love their new kitchen and feel that they can really entertain family and friends. With loads of storage and large areas to prepare food, entertaining large groups is now fun and easy.
