Designing An All-White Kitchen That Feels Homey

Designing An All-White Kitchen That Feels Homey

White kitchens have been around for a long time, but in the last few years, they’ve had a serious resurgence, and we understand why.

When designed and executed correctly, a modern white kitchen is an inviting and luxurious space that serves well as the hub of your home.

Although it may seem easy to design a simple white kitchen, avoiding a result that comes across as lifeless and clinical can be tricky.

Introducing contrasting materials and colours is key to creating a modern white kitchen that feels warm and inviting.

Balnei & Colina renovations have been designing and renovating kitchens for over 30 years. A Balnei & Colina renovation consultant can help you create an all-white kitchen renovation that’s clean, crisp and homey.

In this month’s B&C Home Journal, we’ll show you how to inject warmth and personality into an all-white kitchen. Enjoy!

Add texture with different materials and finishes

Add depth to your modern white kitchen by including different textures and tones. We love how the wood grounds the kitchen design in the first image and gives it a contemporary vibe.

The exact shade of wood is replicated in the stools and island, making it feel softer and more welcoming.

Another way of adding depth but still keeping things light and bright is by adding accents with different materials in the same colour.

If you dream of having a strictly white modern kitchen, you can still add dimension without bringing in other colours and tones. Try playing with matte and polished finishes, too.

Introducing different textures and materials can be a delicate balance. If you need assistance, a kitchen renovation expert from Balnei & Colina might be just what you need to get your project underway.

Create contrast

There’s something so classic about a black-and-white kitchen. The contrast feels bold yet timeless.

The black benchtop and matching matte black handles in the first image break up the one-tone feeling a white kitchen runs the risk of having. But including black in your kitchen colour scheme isn’t the only way to add contrast.

Your backsplash and benchtop are prime real estate but don’t forget your choice in hardware, lighting fixtures and accessories have the power to create depth, too.

Even your choice of flooring can play a significant role in the overall look and feel.

If you’re struggling with creating contrast in your kitchen renovation, our team of expert kitchen designers at Balnei & Colina can help you select the best materials and finishes to create a better balance.

Add splashes of colour

When we say add splashes of colour, we don’t mean you need to add the rainbow. If you’re opting for an all-white kitchen design, chances are that’s not your cup of tea anyway!

You can, however, add some personality to your kitchen space by choosing an accent colour. Selecting subdued colours is a safe alternative to white (for example, the pastel blue of the pendant lights in the illustration above).

Your splashback is a great place to play with colour, but if you’re not ready for such a big commitment, stick to light fittings and kitchen accessories.

Repeat your accent colour in a few places to ensure it all ties in. White will still dominate, but your accent colour will add the contrast and balance you’re looking for (highlighting your lovely white cabinetry).

Layer shades of white

One shade of white throughout your modern white kitchen can look a little flat. The solution? Layering shades of white, patterns and texture to create dimension.

The white marble benchtop used above is just a few shades darker than the bright white cabinetry. And the faint grey veining pattern in the natural stone adds a subtle but much-needed feature.

Adding a different tone to highlight the face of an island bench, for example, is another thoughtful detail that adds depth and separation.
