1. Pops of colour

Traditionally, bathrooms are light and bright — but have you considered adding a pop of colour to your space? More and more, our clients are having fun with the colour palette for their bathroom renovations.

Go bold with your tiles by adding a feature wall in your favourite colour; it adds contrast and character. You could even go the route of adding a colourful sink to your vanity — a trend we’re anticipating will rise to prominence in 2023 as well.

2. Earthy tones

If bold colours aren’t your style, we’re happy to share that using earthy, layered tones in your bathroom is also a rising trend. And given how inviting and warm they can make a bathroom feel, we understand why.

Think warm pinks, caramels, browns and terracottas. You could incorporate these tones in your cabinetry but also consider your tiling, wall colour and accessories as well.

While this trend does lean into colour, it takes a more subtle approach, making it an excellent opportunity to layer and create depth. Marble bathrooms (as we’ll soon discuss) are also on the rise. Instead of restricting yourself to stark white marble or limestone countertops, consider an earthier tone for a more homey feel.

3. Marble

We anticipate bathroom renovations in 2023 will be dominated by quality, natural materials, and marble does it better than any other surface material. Most commonly used for countertops, strong marble patterns are everywhere right now.

Marble walls, with their imperfections and intriguing veining, are the perfect way to elevate a space. We’re even seeing marble sinks and vanities take centre stage in bathroom renovations.

If you’re looking to add an elegant, spa-like ambience to your home, you can’t go past the beauty of natural stone look in your bathroom renovation — it’s a favourite of our clients.

4. Textiles

There’s a real focus on making bathrooms feel warmer and more inviting in 2023, so the trend of adding textiles should come as no surprise.

Bathroom textiles add softness to a space filled with hard surfaces, not to mention extra comfort, support and warmth - especially on chilly mornings.

Because of this, we’re seeing more runners, rugs and patterned curtains making an appearance in bathroom designs.

Sometimes you can look at a room from a design perspective and know that something is missing. If this feels familiar, you are not alone and adding texture may be one answer. It's an element that can complete a room. It can bring a perfectly fine design up to enviable levels.

Need a hand-adding texture to your bathroom plans? Allow our Balnei & Colina team of bathroom renovation experts to lend a hand.

5. Japandi Design

Have you heard of Japandi design? You’d be forgiven if not — it’s a fairly new trend and one we expect to continue to see in 2023. Taking elements from Scandinavian and Japanese trends, Japandi is the best of both.

This modern bathroom style is a paired-back aesthetic that’s all about sleek lines, neutrals, natural materials, and hints of greenery. We’re seeing stained black cabinetry and slatted wood accents — evidence of the Japanese influence we all know and love.

Sidestepping glamour, you won’t find gold or brushed tapware in these bathrooms. Instead, Japandi is all about modern black or chrome fittings.

Considering a Japandi-style space of your own? They’re perfect for those who want a space to relax and unwind at the end of a long day.

Allow our Balnei & Colina bathroom renovation experts to take the guesswork out of the bathroom design process and create a picture-perfect space for you and your family to enjoy.

6. Curves

Retro elements will continue to come out to play in 2023, including sculptural curves and arches in bathroom renovations.

Add visual interest to your shower with a unique curved design or make a statement with rounded corners in unexpected places — like your vanity and shower screen.

We’re used to designs in straight lines, particularly in areas with hard surfaces, so mixing things up can create a sense of unexpected delight.

Mirrors in irregular and funky shapes are also popping up more and more, so if you don’t feel confident committing to a curved build, experimenting with elements that aren’t permanent is a great place to start.
